Due to Caleb's history of asthma related croup he had to have some surgical tests done to check his lungs, esophagus, trachea, tonsils, adnoids, vocal chords and sinuses. This is called a bronchoscopy/endoscopy. He also had a tube inserted just above his stomach to measure reflux (called a PhProbe). This had to be in place for 24 hours while he wore a little computer that recorded the results.
Here we are pre-surgery. You can tell he is a little unsure about this surgery-thing.
The dinosaur breathing treatment helped to ease his anxiety a bit.

"I do it myself momma."

He did awesome in surgery. Chris and I were able to watch the whole thing. It was really helpful to see and hear what the surgeons were thinking as they went through his airways.

Oh no! One quick swoop of his fingers and he PULLED out his probe! We had to sit in recovery for almost 3 hours while they figured out how and who was going to put this tube back in a sqirmy 2 year old (this is something usually done while sedated). Luckily one of the digestive nurses was up to the task and Caleb made it surprisingly easy to get the tube back in. What a champ!

Finally! The tube was back in and we were finally ready to be admitted to our room for the night. Caleb was also outfitted with two arm braces to keep him from pulling his tube out again.
Caleb's first stop was to the playroom!

Next, a ride in his pedal car. I can't tell you how many loops we did around the 4th floor!

A little air hockey. Caleb really began to love his little "computer." He thought he was "just like daddy" and kept saying that he was ready for work. Very cute!
Grandma Renee even stopped by to play for a while and kindly fed Caleb some red jello. It was good to have a relief pitcher for a while. It's rough trying to entertain a 2-yr-old in the hosptital.

When Caleb's 24 hour period was finally over his tube and IV were finally removed and he was FREE of all those chords. The hospital has a really great program where they bring in a bag of toys to help distract kids from not-so-fun procedures - like having tape ripped off your cheeks.

Caleb loved all the toys so much he no longer wanted to go home. But after a promise of allowing him to press the button in the elevator he relented.

It is good to be back home again. Thank you all for your prayers over our little one. Although all the results are not back yet, his test did indicate that he will need to do a sleep study and have his tonsil/adnoids out next. Fun.
