Big Cousin Nick was so sweet to allow Caleb to use his old Thomas stuff (he's 14 now and has moved on to girls). We tried getting it out last year and Caleb really had no clue what to do with it and the table was much too tall. But we just set it up in his play room and he is hooked! He loves pushing the trains around the track and making little choo choo noised. He even has most of the engine names down already. I'm not sure what the appeal is... but he loves Thomas!
